Tracking Positive Change

This Before-and-After Survey measures and tracks positive changes in student empathy, belonging, agency, and prosocial mindset (doing for others.)  survey. Survey Questions are in English and Spanish.

The information tracked in this resource helps the Dreamline organization evaluate our own progress and it can help you to show positive impact from the project for administrative purposes.

If you give the assessment before and after, Dreamline can calculate the % change in each area — Empathy, Belonging, Agency, and Prosocial Mindset — for your group.

The exact same assessment is given at the beginning and end of the program, and we measure changes in responses. If students are puzzled by answering the same questions again, you can explain that the questions are the same but they, the students, may be different.

  • No login  or password are required.
  • Allow  30 minutes or more for the assessment.
  • There are 20 questions. Students rate their agreement with a statement with a scale of 1 to 5.
  • The assessment needs to be completed in one session. They can not come back to it.
  • Absent students can take it on another day.
  • You will need to assign each student a number they will enter in the form. Keep your list so they can enter the same number for the Before assessment and the After assessment. We do not track names or any identifying information of individual students.
  • Students will be asked to name their group. You can choose the name you want them to enter. Example: Mrs. Lopez’s 5th Grade.
  • Students will be asked to enter their school name. Please provide the name for them so they are uniform.
  • It is fine to read the questions aloud to students, projecting the assessment on the board, but having them give select and enter their own answers. You can do this by completing the first part of the form for yourself and entering “DEMO” for the student number.
