This brief documentary of the Dreamline program led by teaching artists at the Philadelphia Museum of Arts after-school program for School District of Philadelphia middle school students features interviews with teaching artists, students, and museum administrators as well as visual samples of student work in many formats. The program was conducted with the intention of creating a Dreamline installation at Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia, a facility which provides housing for families with children in critical or chronic conditions at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. This is a good resource for showing students that there are many ways for it to express their dream as it shows a wide rage of artistic approaches to creating a Dream Banner.
I also highlights the fact that creating a Dream Banner is a form of service as these students were creating their banners with the intention of offering them to others who were suffering and would benefit from the inspirational messages. This is a key teaching element of the Dreamline experience.
It can also be a good way for adult leaders to get ideas on ways to use visual art to support student work.
